New Soft Switching and Magnetic Technologies for Very High Efficiency and Power Density

Soft switching topologies have become popular in many applications in the last twenty years. The most popular soft switching technology, the LLC topology is not suitable for a larger input-output voltage range necessary in many applications such as battery charges, though some complex
solutions were recently proposed.
The latest developments in semiconductor technologies such as SiC and GaNs devices have
facilitated the soft switching operation. The ultra-low impedance of the latest semiconductor
devices has also created the opportunity for new magnetic technologies.
The goal of this seminar is to present new soft switching technologies which can be applied to
any of the classical hard switching topology converting them to a “true soft switching topology”. In “true soft switching topology”, the primary switching devices turn on at zero voltage and the
secondary switching devices turn off at zero current. There is no ringing or spikes across any of the switching devices in primary or secondary. Unlike LLC topologies the new technologies can efficiently operate for an output voltage range of 6:1, and a total input-output voltage range of
18:1 for power delivery 3.0 and 3.1. The seminar will also present several new magnetic
technologies suitable with these new soft switching topologies for higher output power for
Automotive with very high efficiency for isolated DC-DC converters. Very informative for
engineers working in Automotive for high power chargers including bidirectional
chargers and also for lower power applications such as ultra-high-density AC-DC
adapters in compliance with P.D. 3.0 and 3.1.
